The Hatfield family was from England, the Mc Coy family was from Ireland and they lived between West Virginia and Kentucky in the 19th century. A feud occured between those two families for almost 100 years, a lot were killed. It began by a killed body when returning from the Civil War battle, it continued with a dispute about a ownership of a hog and a love affaire between two young people of both families.
It stays as a symbol in american memory of the perils of family honor, justice and vengeance.
It has inspired plays, movies, tourist tours.
